Artist Statement:
I am a character illustrator and graphic designer with a focus on romance. My illustrations are a reflection of my own rose-colored view of romance. Most of the characters I portray are romantically related, not only because romance is my favorite genre in media, but also because I wish to see more romantic stories in my everyday life. Inspired by this wish, I draw warm-colored couples in romantic settings of my invention attempting to display passion and intimacy.
My primary inspirations are traced upon anime and books. One of my favorite books is Jane Austen's 'Pride and Prejudice'. The complicated relationship between the main characters captured my heart due to the different dynamics that lead to a blossoming love. I desire, as much as Mr. Darcy desires to wed Elizabeth Bennet, to replicate my feelings in my artworks to display the beauty of human connection. To make not only me, but my viewers fall in love with romance.
My visual style, while being inspired by Japanese animation, more closely resembles the artworks of the famous Walt Disney brand. The reason for this style inspiration is the heavy character-based visual storytelling that makes their films memorable ever since my childhood. My goal is to visually present characters with their own lives and aspirations. Character's who don't need exposition or biographies, but their personalities are unforgettable. My practices are centered around lining, and rendering, oftentimes trying to achieve a sort of "rough sketched" look rather than a clean-lined outcome.
